My approach is to work with you to determine what works best for you and your needs. Whether you have a health condition such as an autoimmune disorder, hypo- or hyperthyroid, diabetes, or simply want to gain control over your health, I can provide guidance in helping you make the right nutrition choices. In your sessions we collaborate not only on food plans, but on lifestyle choices that involve reducing stress and gaining energy to help you live the best life you can. Integrative Nutrition in Maryland

Hi! I’m Carla Hunnicutt, a Certified Nutrition Specialist and Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist located in the Annapolis area. My philosophy is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to eating; each person’s physiology is different, and what works well for one person may not work well for another. I don’t believe in fad diets, but in helping you maintain a positive relationship with nutrition in a way that’s fun and stress-free. Although I think of food as medicine, I'm a southern girl at heart and I love comfort foods, being originally from Georgia. I grew up eating scrumptious vegetables from my grandparents' garden: my grandma's collard greens, tomatoes, cabbage and so much more. I can help you find a way to make nutrient-dense whole foods delicious AND easy to prepare. If you're looking to lose weight, improve a specific health condition, or just learn how to eat healthier, I'm here for you. With a Master of Science in Nutrition from Maryland University of Integrative Health, I've supported clients through weight loss, osteoporosis, menopause, enlarged prostate, liver disease, and cancer, to name a few. Just say no to fad diets!

Not sure what the right foods are to eat? Today we are constantly bombarded with conflicting messages: one day eggs are healthy, another day they’re not, one day low-fat is the answer and the next it’s all about keto, the list goes on. But here’s the thing: determining what foods to eat depends entirely on the individual. That’s what holistic, integrative nutrition is all about. Sure, there are some things we all want to avoid or minimize, like trans fats and ultraprocessed foods. And for the most part, if it comes from the ground, or if you can get it from a farm, it’s safe and healthy to eat – provided you don’t have an allergy, digestive disorder, or compromised immune system. But to figure out what’s truly healthy depends on you and your body, and not on whatever bandwagon the rest of the world jumps on. I don’t focus on dieting, but rather on making lifestyle changes that will be feasible for YOU. It doesn’t happen overnight! Sometimes we have to take baby steps. But once you start to see the dramatic difference even just one small change can make in your life, you’ll become more motivated to eat nutrient-dense foods that make you feel better and improve your quality of life.
